Keawe St. Intersection
Good News!

Anyone familiar with the intersection at Keawe Street and the Honoapi'ilani Highway knows that it's a bit tricky coming out of Gateway center, heading south onto the highway. There is no left hand turn signal, no directional sign, nothing to help direct traffic wanting to make a left hand turn out of this intersection. This not only creates confusion on the part of motorists, it is also a potential safety hazard. Early on, Lahaina Bypass Now (LBN) became aware of this traffic situation and began working on solutions. LBN has been working closely with the Department of Transportation (DOT) to correct the situation and now, a solution is forthcoming.

Good News! Through LBN's communication and partnership efforts, the DOT has recognized there is a need and is committed to improving the intersection. The plan is to create a dedicated left hand turn lane coming out of Gateway Center. Best of all, the estimated completion date is expected to be the end of the 1st Quarter, 2010, and quite possibly sooner.

Thank you, DOT!
